Surf N Turf Showdown- FAQ

Q: When I have been on other all inclusive vacations, there is always a buffet each night for dinner and If you wanted to go to a specialty restaurant, you had to go stand in line somewhere to make a reservation, and could only make it 2-3 days in advance....so you had to go through this annoying process each day. Do you know how the dining in the restaurants is handled at Sandals. Any way we can make our dinner reservations in advance? -Looking forward to an awesome trip

What is a "Dine Around"
Dining around is making reservations for guests to dine. Guests wishing to participate can request reservations for their party on the Dine Around evenings The resort will prepare a dine around sign-up sheets which will be available to us  at the pickleball courts on evenings that don't have dinner activies. At that time we will know how many reservations we can make at each restaurant. In the meantime, confer with your friends and research info on restaurants so you have an idea which restaurant you'd like to make reservations. Any unused dining slots that we do not need, will be released back to the resort on the day of the restaurant dine around no later than 1pm.

You don't have to do the Dine Around - as always, you can just show up and they will seat you when seating is available.
Q: Do you know the travel time to YS Falls? I'm interested in going, but not if its an hour or more bus ride over hills and curves.
A: It's about 45 minutes to the falls. The trip leaves approximately 11 AM and returns around 4:30 PM.
Q: John and I are a little concerned about the Zika virus in Jamaica.  The CDC shows it as a very high Zika area.  I’m sure the Sandals resorts are doing everything they can to keep the mosquitoes away (spraying, etc.), but I’d like to hear their take on what’s going on.  Have there been any reported incidences at their resort?  Even if Sandals has things under control, what about the trip to/from the airport and to YS Falls? Are there additional precautions we should be taking?
A: Here's copy/paste from my Island Routes Specialist - regarding YS Falls "Hi Gail, We have not gotten any reports of Zika Virus there. They fog the park in the evenings when the park is closed."

From Simone Grey, Resort Sales Manager:
"Thanks for your email, we have had no cases of Zika on resort. We spray twice daily and have repellents available for all guest who needs same. Let us know if you will need for your group and I will have them available. See you soon!! Sunshine & Smiles"

Q: How do they handle the shuttles?  Will they make us wait for long periods?
A: Once you clear customs and collect your luggage head on over to the newly renovated Sandals Arrival Lounge. Each time I've been to Sandals, I could barely could get a beer in the lounge before they were ushering me out to the shuttle.   The porter that takes your bag to the shuttle will expect a tip for transporting your luggage from the Sandals Lounge to the Shuttle. He is not with Sandals.
Q: We have not done an all inclusive before and need to know the customs.  Do we tip? If so to who? How much would be appropriate?
Sandals has a no tip policy.  If a Sandals employee receives a tip, they must report it to management and can loose their job for accepting tips. The only exceptions are  Butlers, Spa & services provided by non-sandals employees. You may and should tip your butler (think about how much you tip on a cruise ship - per person).  If you book a spa treatment they will add approximately 10% service fee. This service fee is also added to promotional spa credits. You may tip your technician. Last year I had an hour massage,. My technician seemed content with my $5 tip. The porters at the airport who carry your luggage on arrival from the Sandals lounge to the shuttle, and from the shuttle to the airport are not a part of Sandals and will expect a tip 1-2 per bag USD.  You also  should consider tipping your tour guides and shuttle bus drivers.
Q: Are we having photos taken this year?
A:Photo services are no longer a Sandals service. If a photographer takes your picture, you may view it in the photo shop. Photos were $15 each last time I was at Sandals. We will be taking our own photos throughout the trip ....please text/email your photos if they are worth sharing with the group. We will have one complimentary group photo shoot on Friday night (white night). Each room will get one 5x7 complimentary photo.
Q: What do I need if I want to Scuba Dive?
A: TAKE CARE OF ALL THIS  BEFORE YOU GO! Also make sure you go to the dive shop as soon as you get to the resort to sign up for the next days dive as the boat fills up quickly. Dive times may conflict with our Round Robin Times.
For NEW Divers you'll need to complete the Medical Questionnaire and The Certified Release Form
For Certified Divers you'll need your own Medical Questionnaire and The Certified Release Form  bring your log book and padi card.

PLEASE READ THE SCUBA FAQ'S
Q: Are the discounts Sandals offers while on property really worth it?
A: You can save $$ on your next Sandals vacation if you book while on property, however you may want to ask if you can apply your savings to a group trip (if you are planning on doing another Sandals Pickleball group trip). If you should decide to book another regular vacation stay at a Sandals Resort, please tell them that you work with a Travel Agent and you need printed reservation information to pass along to me. After your approval and upon your return, I can service your booking and help you with your entire vacation experience. The resort can only book your room and will not service your entire vacation booking.
